OPERATION EAR DROP KENYA PROJECT IN KENYATTA NATIONAL HOSPITAL
The Operation Ear Drop Kenya biannual project in Free Ear Surgery Session and Training on Temporal Bone Dissection for the residents in KNH concluded successfully. The project which commenced on Monday 8th May 2017 ended on Thursday 18th May 2017.
The project focus on correcting internal ear defects on children. The main objective of the project is to bring free ear and hearing healthcare and to assist 50 patients at subsidized fee of Ksh. 6,000 per patient, a cost that is covered by Ear Drop-Netherlands. The surgeries and training were conducted by the volunteer team of doctors from Netherlands lincluding Prof. Gerrit Jan Hordijk, Dr. David Kupperman, Dr. Brenkman, and Dr. Frits Smit in collaboration with KNH and University of Nairobi- ENT Department of Surgery.
The project offered a training opportunity to 9 KNH Resident Doctors and 2 Residents from Tanzania. The principal objective for this course is to provide a platform for the ENT Residents to remain abreast with recent developments in ear surgery and to transfer of knowledge.
